As most American’s know, silver stopped being used in American coins in 1965. Some of the coins minted before 1965 are worth more for their silver content than their face value. From 1878 until 1921 Morgan silver dollars were minted. Why the name Morgan? Well, George Morgan was hired by the U.S. Mint who prepared the “dies” for these silver dollar coins. Morgan coins are valued for their design and rarity. How would you buy morgan silver dollars? If you wanted to you could buy for a collector or look for them on line. My husband has a few old coins. He does not know a lot about them but keeps them in the hopes they will become more valuable with time. The Morgan dollars as much a collector’s item as they are a work of art.
